Pluto, 9th Planet
Friday, August 25th, 2006 at 5:52 amNow, for those in the dark, the International Astronomical Union has decided Pluto is no longer a planet, due to a slight technicality: Pluto’s orbit crosses Neptune’s, but not in any real and useful way. But thanks to the loosely defined definition of having to clear the neighborhood around it (which, in my opinion, it has), it has been demoted to minor planet status.
In my most unhumble opinion, this is total bullshit. Not only have they denied Pluto it’s planetship that it has had since 1930 (not to mention all the educational texts we have to rip up now, the ones we’ve had since the Reagen era), but they have denied the only double planet system we know of.
Double planet, you ask? Charon isn’t technically moon of Pluto, they both oribt around each other as they orbit around the Sun, so it is a double planet system; but under the new clarification of the rules, its a simple “dwarf” double planet system. In other words, they’re two large round asteroids that wobble around each other.
I dunno, but I think the IAU screwed up on this one. If Pluto crosses Neptune’s orbit, then Neptune crosses Pluto’s orbit, which means Neptune is no longer a planet either. You can’t fail one planet and allow the other. The only way the IAU can even be possibly right is to give a minimum diameter or some other useful measurement, ie, anything smaller than Mercury or 1/3rd of the Earth’s diameter.
In addition to all of this, the IAU failed to pass an amendment to the proposal that turned Pluto into a dwarf planet that would have called this new classification of dwarf planet Trans-Neptunian Objects by a specific name: Plutonians.
Why they are searching the tenth Planet? Pluto is a planet and it affects humans horoscope chart.
I am an astrologer. Pluto is a planet and its influce on the birth chart is so strong. if Pluto make an aspect to the birth chart especially Sun, Moon and the rising sign.
In your personal horoscope Pluto symbolizes death, rebirth, sex, evolution, degeneration and regeneration. In your personal chart if Pluto conjunction, square, opposition with your Sun it gives strog ego and makes you oppressive. If Pluto conjunction, square, opposition with your Venus it gives strong jealousy.
So astrolgers always observed Pluto’s infuluces on peoples personal horoscope charts.
Heh, I never noticed Ceres was a planet for a short time. Apparently so was Pallas, Juno and Vesta as well. Then again, they’re all in the asteroid belt as well, not TNOs.
I think it’s great that a mistake made 70 years ago has now been fixed. Just look at a 3d view of the orbits of the old nine planets and straight away you realise that Pluto is an interloper. It’s not at all like the rest. It’s orbit is all wrong and it’s TINY. Add to that the sheer volume of other objects out there that are just like Pluto and you can clearly see that Pluto is not a planet but a big EKBO/KBO/TNO.
Do you know we had made a similar mistake before with the largest of the Asteroids, Ceres, and that mistake was also later un-done when more and more objects like Ceres were found and it became clear that it wasn’t a planet but the first object of a new class. Pluto is no different to Ceres and Ceres had it’s planetary status stripped too. I think the IAU have done the right thing.
