Canon makes a few good lenses for macro, including the EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro (about $450), which in my opinion is a damned fine lens for macro work.

I'm becoming a believer. Don't have NoiseNinja, as yet, but I read a lot about it on the forums. I think I'll give it a try.
Thanks again!

I'm not the first person to recommend ISO 1600; noise on all Canon CMOS sensors in their EOS series can be cleaned up almost trivially (even at ISO 1600) with NoiseNinja, and even if you don't clean it up, the noise looks a lot like film noise, thus, 'artistic'.

Got it. Thanks. Have to admit, though, that you are kind of a revolutionary with that ISO 1600 recommendation!
Can't say that I have seen it before...

Must admit that it is challenging to manually squeeze the XT's trigger without just a little movement.
Appreciate your reply, by the way.

I only set 100 when the subject is stationary, and the camera is on a tripod and I'm using a remote trigger.

Kind of curious as to why each of your photos in current photo gallery (flowers) are taken at ISO 100, when you recommend locking camera ISO to 1600?
Thanks.

Thanks for the write up. I do have one question. What function are you using in photoshop to correct the grainy look of using 1600iso?

Thanks
