Time Magazine and Politics
Tuesday, December 14th, 2004 at 5:31 pmI rarely post about politics, because this blog is not about them. However, it I feel it is important to speak out about important issues. Time Magazine, every year since the dawn of time, has given a person, group, or in one case a planet, the Man of the Year award. This award was once given to someone that shaped the world, for the better or worse. Hitler one year received this award because everyone was talking about him, even though it was in a negative light.
Will Collier from Vodkapundit says that Bush will probably won’t win it this year, and I disagree with . Bush will win it the same reason Hitler did: because he is on the public mind the most, and he did the public a great disservice which makes it even a bigger hot topic to talk about. (I am, however, not saying Bush is nearly the supreme evil that Hitler was.)
However, I do agree with him that someone who is actually important (few Presidents of the United States get more than a passing mention in history books) deserves the award. I agree with him that Glenn Reynolds the Instapundit or the crew of SpaceShipOne would be great canidates.
Glenn will probably be mentioned in history books for being one of the many pioneering souls that revolutionized the way journalism functions, and is one of the most widely read bloggers. SpaceShipOne, however, will be remembered fondly for literally burning rubber into space and igniting a new era of space exploration.
